Martin York began as a vision in 2014, when founder Jo Syme set out to create a destination for elevated, contemporary fashion in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs—an area she felt was longing for something more considered, more inspiring.

In October 2015, that vision came to life with the opening of Martin York in Town Square at Eastland. The boutique quickly established itself as a leading destination for women seeking thoughtfully curated fashion, defined by both quality and individuality.

At the heart of Martin York is a deeply personal story. The name pays homage to Jo’s late father, Martin Hamilton York Syme—affectionately known as “Bit T”—whose influence continues to shape the brand today. His guidance, strength, and belief in Jo laid the foundation not only for her business mindset, but for the courage to create something truly her own.

Martin York was built to be more than just a store. It is a space created with intention—a place where women feel welcome, comfortable, and at ease. A space to slow down, explore, and discover their own personal style without pressure or expectation. We house some of the most beautiful pieces in Melbourne, delicately balancing the now with the forever—trend-led styles alongside timeless wardrobe staples you will return to season after season. Each piece is carefully curated from some of Australia’s most respected designers, chosen for its quality, wearability, and ability to empower the woman wearing it. By buying thoughtfully and intentionally, these are pieces to be loved for years to come—an approach grounded in slow fashion.

In 2025, Martin York found its forever home in leafy North Balwyn, just moments from the Bulleen Road exit on the Eastern Freeway. Housed within our now-iconic pink building, the space reflects everything the brand has become—distinctive, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Alongside our physical store, our online presence and growing community continue to thrive, connecting women beyond our local neighbourhood and bringing the Martin York experience to a wider audience.
